I have
written six books, and contributed to a couple of
others over of the years. The ongoing success of
my memoir, FLIRTING WITH MERMAIDS, surprises me.
It was first published in 1999 and continues to
sell in a trade paperback edition that was
released in 2003. THE USED BOAT NOTEBOOK,
reprints of my popular column in Sailing Magazine,
is in its second printing and a new edition will
be published in 2006. A follow up memoir, title
still undecided, will also be published in 2006.
The three-way comic novel that I am writing with
famed solo sailor Tania Aebi and larger than life
Bob Bitchin, should also be released in 2006.
Signed copies of all my books can be purchased
here, although you’ll save money buying them at
Amazon and I can just sign them when we go
sailing. In addition to my books, at the bottom
of this page I have included a list of my all time
favorite sailing books. I use the term “sailing
books” loosely, I am interested in great writing
not great information. The USED BOAT NOTEBOOK, as
useful as it is, does not make the list! Let me
know what you think about the list and don’t
hesitate to offer up your suggestions. I’d like
to see this list evolve over the years. I will
start with a nonfiction list and later add a list
of best sailing novels. Next to sailing and
traveling, books are my passion, and while many
sailing books are horrible, a few reach beyond the
genre and serve up sea metaphors that even
confirmed lubbers appreciate.
I have also published hundreds of magazine,
newspaper and online articles over years and
contribute regularly to: Sailing, Southern
Boating, Cruising World, Sailjazz.com, The Miami
Herald and others. My freelance works turns up in
a wide variety of publications and if something
interesting comes up I will keep you posted. Below
are a handful of favorite articles that offer a
glimpse of the magical world of offshore sailing
and cruising.
